A Little Bit About Me
I am a recent Computer Science Major graduate from the University of Arizona. I currently work for Accenture as an IT consultant. I am married to the lovely and talented Beth Lukes Fioritto.
I spend most of my spare time developing a web application with my best friend Josh Kanto. I love programming and learning about emerging technologies. I’m currently obsessed with the idea of Resource Oriented Architectures, (ROA). Using the web to represent the state of an application is so simple and brilliant and it leads to elegant, RESTful APIs. Combine the concept of REST with JavaScript clients, (we’re talking AJAX), and I think we’re looking at the future of the web.
When I’m not programming I’m spending time with my wife and friends. We like to drink beer and wax philosophical — I am an amateur theologian and a beer snob. I also enjoy learning new pieces for the piano or playing Rome: Total War. I tend to enjoy extremely complex, turn-based games.
About Planning for Aliens
I recognize that this is a strange title for a blog, but it speaks volumes about who I am and my personality. I’ve always loved science fiction. My first Sci-fi book was I, Robot by Asimov which I read in fourth grade; so began my love affair with the genre. Perhaps because of this hobby I have always been fascinated with stories that involve hostile aliens coming to Earth to take our resources, enslave us, etc. I am not actually afraid of this happening, (nor do I think it particularly likely), however while spacing out in class in my younger years I devoted a significant amount of my time planning for this event. As a result, since the age of ten I have had an ever-evolving plan for survival should aliens from Mars attack.
For me there is something cathartic about the very act of planning. I enjoy planning vacations and course schedules. I create exercise regimens, to-do lists, personal finance systems, business plans and web applications. Therefore it’s perfectly natural for me to have a well thought out plan for an alien invasion. Doesn’t everyone?
About the Content of this Blog
Posts will be irregular. As much as I would like to create content more frequently my time is already pretty much completely consumed by everything else in life. I do enjoy taking time to create posts with useful directions for solving problems and the occasional theological musing. I wish I had more time, but that is not my life at the moment.
What the Internet Has to Say About Me
Google knows all. It’s interesting to see the links that pop up about me when I do a Google search. For some reason a question I asked regarding iPod compatibility with Banshee has been at the top of my Google results for years along with a rather clumsy question I posted to the Python Tutor list in 2003 when I was just starting my obsession with that language and programming in general. In an attempt to control my Google image a little, here are a few links from my internet past:
